I started going to work with my dad when I was 10, after school and at weekends. That’s where I learned the trade, and how important it is to do a job properly.
We explain your options properly, size the system for your room, keep the pipework neat and leave your home as clean as we found it.

Urban Air Conditioning Essex is the air conditioning side of Urban Heating & Cooling, the heating and cooling company I’ve run in Chelmsford since 2021. Same owner, same engineers, same standards. We gave air con its own name so it’s easier to find.

How much does air conditioning cost to install?
A single-room wall-mounted system is supplied and fitted from £1,800, including Wi-Fi control. The exact price depends on the size of the unit, the brand you choose and the pipe run between the indoor and outdoor units. We confirm everything as a fixed price after your free home survey, with no hidden extras. Multi-room, whole-house and ducted systems are quoted individually.
Can air conditioning heat my home too?
Yes. Modern air conditioning units are air-to-air heat pumps, so the same system gives you cooling in summer and efficient heating in winter, all from one remote or app.
How long does installation take?
A standard single-room install usually takes 4 to 8 hours. Larger multi-room systems or longer pipe runs take 1 to 2 days. We've fitted 4 rooms in 2 days and whole houses in 2 days.
Will it make a mess of my home?
No. We use dust sheets throughout, plan the pipework to keep drilling and trunking to a minimum, and clean up as we go. Our reviews mention it again and again.
Do I need planning permission?
In most homes, air conditioning counts as permitted development and doesn't need planning permission, as long as the outdoor unit is placed sensibly. If you live in a listed building or conservation area, we'll advise you to check with your council first.
Which brand should I choose?
We install Daikin, Mitsubishi Electric, Fujitsu, Panasonic, LG, Samsung, Haier and more. At the survey we'll explain the differences in noise, efficiency, looks and price, then recommend what suits your room and budget.
Is it noisy?
Modern indoor units are whisper quiet. Some models run as low as 19dB, quieter than a whisper, which makes them ideal for bedrooms. We also position the outdoor unit with you and your neighbours in mind.
Are your engineers qualified?
Yes. All refrigerant work must be carried out by F-Gas registered engineers by law, and our registration number is FGAS3024371. Every system is pressure tested, commissioned and demonstrated before we leave.
Does it need servicing?
We recommend a service once a year. It keeps the system efficient, the air clean, and most manufacturers require it to keep their extended warranty valid. We can service it for you.
